Ovestin Indications

- hormone replacement therapy (HRT) for the treatment of atrophy of the lower urinary tract related to estrogen deficiency;
- pre - and postoperative therapy in women in postmenopausal period with vaginal surgical procedures;
- as an additional method for diagnosis in doubtful cases picture of atrophic cervical smear.

Dosage & Administration

The drug is used in the form of a suppository or cream.
Atrophy of the lower urinary tract: 1 suppository (1 dose applicator) daily for the first weeks, followed by gradual dose reduction to support (for example 1 suppository (1 dose applicator 2 times a week) depending on the degree of reduction of symptoms.
For pre - and postoperative treatment of women in the postmenopausal period when vaginal surgery: 1 suppository (1 dose applicator) daily for 2 weeks before surgery; 1 suppository (1 dose applicator 2 times a week for 2 weeks after surgery.
As an aid to diagnosis when you receive a picture of atrophic cervical smear: 1 suppository (1 dose applicator) a day during the week before taking the next smear.
Ovestin vaginal suppositories should be administered into the vagina at night before bedtime.
Ovestin cream should be introduced into the vagina with the help of calibrated applicator at night before bedtime.
1 dose applicator (applicator filled to the ring mark) contains 0.5 g Ovestin cream, which corresponds to 0.5 mg estriol.

Instructions for use of Ovestin cream 
1. Remove the cap from the tube, flip cap, and with a sharp ledge to open the tube.
2. Tie the end of the applicator to the tube.
3. Squeeze the tube to fill the applicator with cream to stop the piston.
4. Remove the applicator from the tube and close the cap.
5. For the introduction of the cream should lie down and insert end of applicator deep into the vagina.
6. Slowly depress the plunger until the complete emptying of the applicator.

After using to get the piston from the cylinder and wash the cylinder and plunger in warm, soapy water. Do not use detergents. After washing, rinse thoroughly.
Do not put the applicator in hot or boiling water!

Contradictions

- Suspected cancer of the breast.
- Known or suspected estrogen-dependent malignant tumours (e.g. endometrial cancer).
- Vaginal bleeding of unknown etiology.
- Untreated endometrial hyperplasia.
- Present in the previous or present venous thromboembolism (deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism).
- Established thromboembolic disorders, such as deficiency of protein C, protein S, or antithrombin.
- Active or recent thromboembolic disease of the arteries (e.g. angina, myocardial infarction).
- Liver disease in active form or liver disease in the anamnesis, after which the liver function tests have not returned to normal.
- Installed hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients.
- Porphyria.
