Metronidazole Indications
Treatment and prevention of infections caused by pathogens susceptible to metronidazole (mainly anaerobic bacteria).
Treatment effective in cases of:
- Infections of the central nervous system (including brain abscess, meningitis);
- Infections of the lungs and pleura (including necrotizing pneumonia, aspiration pneumonia, lung abscess);
- Endocarditis;
- Infections of the digestive tract and abdominal cavity, including peritonitis, liver abscess, infection after surgery for colon or rectum, purulent lesions of abdominal or pelvic cavity;
- Gynecological infections (including endometritis after cesarean section or hysterectomy, childbed fever, septic abortion);
- Infections of upper respiratory tract and oral cavity (including angina Simanovskoho Plauta-Vincent)
- Infections of bones and joints (including osteomyelitis);
- Gas gangrene;
- Septicemia with thrombophlebitis.
When mixed aerobic and anaerobic infections, the medicament should be used in addition to appropriate antibiotic treatment aerobic infections.
Prophylactic always shown before surgery with a high risk of anaerobic infections (intra-abdominal and gynecological before operations).
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to metronidazole or other nitroimidazolnyh derivatives or to any excipient of the drug.
