Melpamid Indications
Diabetes mellitus type II when blood sugar levels can not only keep diet, exercise and weight loss.
Contraindications
- Insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus;
- Diabetic ketoacidosis;
- Diabetic coma;
- Severe renal failure or liver. In case of severe kidney disorders or liver need to transfer the patient to insulin;
- Hypersensitivity to glimepiride or any auxiliary component part of the preparation to sulfonylureas or other sulfanilamides (risk of hypersensitivity reactions).
Dosage & Administration
Successful treatment of diabetes depends on respect for the patient appropriate diet, regular physical activity, as well as continuous monitoring of blood glucose and urine. Failure patients diet can not be compensated by receiving pills or insulin.
Dosage depends on the results of tests of glucose in the blood and urine.
The initial dose is 1 mg (1/2 tablets 2 mg) of glimepiride per day. If this dose achieves disease control, it should be used for maintenance therapy. If glycemic control is not optimal dose should be increased to 2, 3 or 4 mg glimepiride per day gradually (at intervals of 1-2 weeks).
The dose of greater than 4 mg per day gives better results only in rare cases. The maximum recommended dose - 6 mg per day.
