Gentamycin Indications
It is prescribed for the treatment of infections caused by susceptible pathogens to it, including:
- Sepsis
- Urinary tract infection
- Diseases of the lower respiratory tract
- Infections of the skin, bones, soft tissues; infected burn wounds
- Infectious diseases of the central nervous system (CNS) (meningitis) in combination with β-lactam antibiotics
- Abdominal infection (peritonitis)
Contraindications
Severe renal failure (acute and chronic renal failure). Increased sensitivity to gentamicin and other aminoglycoside antibiotics row. Hypersensitivity to any other drug. Diseases of the auditory nerve and vestibular apparatus, azotemia. Pre-treatment of ototoxic drugs. Myasthenia gravis. Parkinsonism. Botulism (gentamicin may cause neuromuscular transmission, which could lead to further weakening of the skeletal muscles). Elderly people.
Dosage & Administration
Gentamicin sulfate can be used intramuscularly or intravenously.
The dose, route of administration and intervals between doses depending on the severity of the disease and the patient.
