Kaptopril Indications
- Hypertension;
- Heart failure:
Captopril is prescribed for the treatment of chronic heart failure with reduction of systolic ventricular function, in combination with diuretics, digitalis if appointed and of beta-blockers;
- Myocardial infarction:
- Short-term (4 weeks) treatment: Captopril is prescribed for any clinically stable patient within the first 24 hours after a heart attack;
- Long-term prevention of symptomatic heart failure: Captopril indicated for clinically stable patients with asymptomatic left ventricular dysfunction (ejection fraction ≤ 40%);

Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to captopril, to any of the excipients of the drug or other inhibitors of angiotensin-converting enzyme;

Dosage & Administration

Hypertension
The recommended starting dose is 25-50 mg daily divided into 2 doses per day.
