Ceftriaxone is a long acting, broad-spectrum cephalosporin antibiotic for parenteral use. Ceftriaxone inhbits the bacterial cell wall synthesis leading to lysis of bacteria.
INDICATIONS :
- infections caused by pathogens sensitive to ceftriaxone, e.g.: -sepsis; -meningitis; -abdominal infections (peritonitis, infections of the biliary and gastrointestinal tracts)
- infections of the bones, joints, soft tissue, skin and of wounds
- infections in patients with impaired defence mechanisms
- renal and urinary tract infections
- respiratory tract infections, particularly pneumonia, and ear, nose and throat infections
- genital infections, including gonorrhoea
- perioperative prophylaxis of infections
APPLICATION:
Ceftriaxone used / m and / in. Before therapy with ceftriaxone should be excluded if the patient hypersensitive to the drug, having a skin test.
Adults and children over the age of 12 years: usually appoint 1-2 g of ceftriaxone 1 times a day (every 24 hours). In severe infections, or infections, which are causative agents show moderate sensitivity to ceftriaxone, the daily dose can be increased up to 4 years
Children
Newborn (2 weeks): 20-50 mg / kg body weight one time per day. The daily dose should not exceed 50 mg / kg body weight. When determining the dose for term and preterm infants is no difference.
Newborn and children aged from 15 days to 12 years: 20-80 mg / kg body weight 1 time per day.
Children weighing> 50 kg the dose prescribed for adults. B / in a drug dose of 50 mg / kg body weight or higher to be administered by infusion for at least 30 min.
Elderly patients
Elderly patients dose adjustment is required.
