Esopram Indications

- Major depressive episodes;
- Panic disorder with or without agoraphobia presence;
- Social anxiety disorder (social phobia);
- Generalized anxiety disorder;
- Obsessive-compulsive disorders.

Contradictions

- Hypersensitivity to escitalopram or any of the components that make up the drug;
- Concomitant treatment with non-selective irreversible MAO inhibitors due to the risk of serotonin syndrome, manifested agitation, tremor, hyperthermia. Combined treatment with escitalopram and reversible MAO-A inhibitors (eg moclobemide) or the reversible non-selective MAO inhibitors (linezolid) is also contraindicated due to the risk of serotonin syndrome;
- Patients with known Q-T intervals or congenital elongated elongated Q-T interval, simultaneous application of drugs which prolong the interval Q-T;
- Concomitant treatment with pimozide.

Dosage & Administration

Oral adminstration. Regardless to the meal, one time / a day at a dose that is individually determined by a doctor, depending on the nature of the disease and the patient's individual sensitivity to the drug.

Major depressive episodes. Typically prescribed 10 mg 1 time per day. Depending on the individual sensitivity of the patient the dose may be increased to 20 mg. The antidepressant effect usually occurs within 2-4 weeks. After the disappearance of symptoms treatment should continue normally for 6 months in order to strengthen the effect.

Panic disorder with or without the presence of agoraphobia. During the 1st week recommended starting dose of 5 mg / day, after which the dose can be increased to 10 mg / day. The dose may be further increased to 20 mg / day depending on the individual patient's sensitivity. The maximum effect in the treatment of panic disorder is reached after 3 months. treatment time is a few months, depending on the severity of the disease.

Social anxiety disorder (social phobia). Typically prescribed 10 mg 1 time per day. Depending on the individual sensitivity of the patient is recommended to increase the dose to 20 mg / day. The reduction of symptoms is usually observed after 2-4 weeks of treatment. It is recommended to continue treatment for 3 months. Prolonged treatment for 6 months is prescribed to prevent recurrence, taking into account individual manifestations of the disease; regularly evaluate the effectiveness of treatment.
