Carbidopa & Levadopa Indications
Parkinson's disease and syndrome.
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to the active ingredients or to any component of the drug;
- Closure glaucoma;
- Severe heart failure;
- Severe cardiac arrhythmia;
- Severe psychosis;
- Concomitant use of selective inhibitors of monoamine oxidase (MAO) type A and selective MAO inhibitors (except low doses of specific inhibitors of MAO-B). These drugs should be discontinued at least 2 weeks prior to the appointment of carbidopa and levodopa-Teva;
- Suspicious and undiagnosed skin disorders or a history of melanoma.
The drug is not administered to patients who are contraindicated sympathomimetic.
Dosage & Administration
The tablet has a break line, ie a tablet can be divided in half.
The optimal daily dose of carbidopa / levodopa careful titration is determined individually for each patient.
Depending on the severity of the disease may need about 6 months for optimal therapeutic effect.
Patients not receiving levodopa. For patients who begin taking the drug, the initial dose of ½ tablet once or twice a day. If necessary, you can add ½ a tablet every day or the next day to reach the required number of carbidopa.
The therapeutic effect of the drug appears on the same day, sometimes after one dose. Total effective dose is reached within seven days compared with weeks and months of levodopa alone.
