Atarax Indications
- Symptomatic treatment of anxiety in adults;
- As a sedative during sedation;
- Symptomatic treatment of itching.
Dosage & Administration
The drug is administered orally.
Adults
For symptomatic treatment of anxiety: 50 mg individual doses (12.5 mg in the morning, afternoon 12.5 mg, 25 mg at bedtime). In severe cases, the dose can be increased to 300 mg per day.
For sedation in surgical practice: 50-200 mg in one or two stages 1 hour before the operation, and in addition may precede the application once at night before anesthesia.
For symptomatic treatment of pruritus: initial dose of 25 mg, if necessary dose can be increased (25 mg 3-4 times a day).
The single maximum dose should not exceed 200 mg, the maximum daily dose
is not more than 300 mg.
Children
For symptomatic treatment of pruritus:
Ages 3 to 6 years (children weighing over 15 kg): 1 mg / kg to 2.5 mg / kg per day in separate doses.
Ages 6 years: 1 mg / kg to 2 mg / kg per day in separate doses.
For sedation - 1 mg / kg 1 hour before the operation, and an additional 1 mg / kg at night before anesthesia.
Contraindications
The drug is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients of the drug cetirizine, to other piperazine derivatives, aminophylline or ethylenediamine.
Also contraindicated in patients with porphyria; patients with prolongation QT, which existed before treatment.
Atarax is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
The drug contains lactose in its composition, so patients with hereditary galactose intolerance, lactase deficiency or malabsorption Lappa glucose-galactose should not take the medicinal product.
