Teteracycline eye ointment Indications
Infectious eye diseases: conjunctivitis, keratitis, blepharitis, trachoma.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to tetracycline or to similar antibiotics (doxycycline, metacycline, oxytetracycline) and excipients listed in the section "Composition". Fungal diseases, lupus erythematosus, deep or stab wounds, severe burns, long-term use in liver or kidney disease, leukopenia. Pregnancy and breastfeeding. Children under 8 years.
Dosage & Administration
Depending on the severity of the condition, a strip of eye ointment 1-1.5 cm long is applied to the conjunctiva of the lower eyelid 3-4 times a day, in more severe cases - up to 6 times a day.
The duration of treatment is determined by the doctor and it is usually from 5 to 7 days. After relief of symptoms, treatment should be continued for another 2-3 days. In more severe eye infections, acute or chronic trachoma, the course of treatment can last up to 1-2 months, and tetracycline can be combined with oral antibiotics.
When used concomitantly with other ophthalmic drugs, the interval between applications should be at least 10 minutes, eye ointment should be applied last.
It is very important to observe good hygiene when applying eye ointment, so do not touch the tip of the tube to the eyes or surrounding surfaces.
Application method.
1. Carefully apply a strip of eye ointment (1-1.5 cm) to the conjunctival sac of the affected eye so that the tip of the tube does not touch the eyelids or surrounding surfaces.
2. The eyelids are closed for 1-2 minutes and the movements of the eyeball in different directions transfer the drug over the entire surface.
3. Remove the excess ointment from the eyelids and eyelashes with a clean napkin. Wipe the tip of the tube with another frequent napkin and close tightly.
4. If it is necessary to apply tetracycline to the other eye, repeat all the steps described.
