Protopic Indications
Treatment of atopic dermatitis.
Contradictions
Hypersensitivity to tacrolimus, macrolides or excipients.Protopic ointment can not be used in patients with congenital or acquired immunodeficiency, or in patients taking immunosuppressive drugs.
Dosage & Administration
Protopic can be used as a short-term, and for a long period of time, in the form of repetitive courses of therapy. Prolonged treatment should not be continuous.
Treatment with Protopics should begin at the first appearance of symptoms and continue until complete, almost complete or significant disappearance of skin lesions (more often during
12 months). After that, patients can be transferred to prophylactic treatment (see below). At the first signs of reoccurrence of the symptoms of the disease, the treatment should be restored.
Children aged 2 to 16 years old
It is necessary to use an ointment of lower concentration (Protopic 0,03%). The course of treatment - twice a day for three weeks. In the future, the frequency of application should be reduced to once a day until the complete disappearance of skin lesions (see section "Application Features").
Adults and adolescents (aged 16 years or older)
Treatment should begin with Protopics 0.1% twice a day and continue until the complete disappearance of skin lesions. In case of repeated symptoms, the treatment starts again. If the clinical condition allows, try to reduce the frequency of application of the drug or use an ointment lower concentration (Protopic 0.03%).
