Norfloxacin indications
Infectious-inflammatory diseases caused by microorganisms sensitive to norfloxacin:
- acute and chronic urinary tract infections (complicated and uncomplicated);
- genital infections (prostatitis, epididymitis, cervicitis, gonococcal infections, chancroid);
- acute bacterial gastroenteritis, typhoid fever; infections of the gastrointestinal tract (salmonellosis, shigellosis, "travelers' diarrhea");
- prevention of sepsis in patients with neutropenia; respiratory tract infections, ear infections, nose and throat (acute and chronic otitis media, chronic sinusitis, acute tonsillitis);
- prevention of bacterial infections in patients with granulocytopenia.
Dosage and administration
Orally, 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal. Uncomplicated urinary tract infections - 400 mg 2 times a day for 3-10 days, in complicated urinary tract infections - 400 mg 2 times a day for 10-20 days, and chronic recurrent urinary tract infections - 12 weeks . In acute uncomplicated gonococcal urethritis, pharyngitis, proctitis, cervicitis - once 800-1 200 mg. In acute bacterial gastroenteritis - 400 mg 2-3 times a day for 5 days, typhoid - 400 mg 2 times a day for 14 days.
For the prevention of septicemia in neutropenic - 400 mg 2-3 times a day for 8 weeks. For infections of the ear, nose and respiratory tract - on 400 mg 2 times a day for 3-25 days.
The duration of the antimicrobial effect - about 12 hr. Patients with renal impairment (creatinine clearance less than 30 mL / min), administered 400 mg / day. Side effect. Rarely possible hypersensitivity reactions, photosensitivity, nausea, vomiting and other dyspepsia, headache, dizziness, drowsiness, changes in hematological and biochemical parameters. Very rarely - allergic reactions (rash and itching).
Contraindications
Pregnancy, lactation, childhood and adolescence (15 years), deficiency of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase, hypersensitivity to norfloxacin and other drugs of the quinolone series.
