Multaq Indications

Multaq is indicated for use in adult patients in stable clinical condition, which previously had or currently suffer from a form of non-permanent atrial fibrillation (AF) to prevent recurrence of AF or slow ventricular rate.

Dosage & Adminsitration

Multak drug treatment can begin on an outpatient basis.
For adults, the recommended dose is 400 mg 2 times a day. Take 1 tablet in the morning and evening meals.
Do not drink grapefruit juice Multaq tablets.
In case of skipping the dose you must take the next dose according to a certain pattern, you should not double the dose.
Before the start of the drug should be discontinued treatment Multak antiarrhythmics class I and III (flecainide, propafenone, quinidine, disopyramide, dofenilid, sotalol, amiodarone).
Children and adolescents
The experience of use in children and adolescents under the age of 18 years is not, therefore Multak drug is not recommended for use in this patient group.
Elderly patients
Efficacy and safety of a medicament for use in the elderly and younger patients were comparable.
Although the study of pharmacokinetics in healthy volunteers blood plasma drug levels in older women was upgraded, dosage adjustment is not practical.
Liver failure
Multak is contraindicated in patients with severe hepatic impairment because of the absence of relevant data. Patients with mild to moderate hepatic impairment is not necessary to dose adjustment.
Kidney failure
Multak is contraindicated in patients with severe renal insufficiency (creatinine clearance <30 mL / min). Patients with other forms of renal failure, the dose adjustment is required.

 

Contradictions

- Hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any subsidiary component of the drug.
- AV block II or III level or syndrome sick sinus (except in cases of application at the same time with a functioning pacemaker).
- bradycardia <50 bpm. / Min.
- Patients with unstable hemodynamics, including patients with symptoms of heart failure at rest or with minimal exertion (corresponding to Class IV and patients with unstable state corresponding to the class III according to the classification of heart failure, New York Heart Association (NYHA)).
- Co-administration with inhibitors of cytochrome P450 3A4, such as ketoconazole, itraconazole, voriconazole, telithromycin, clarithromycin, nefazodone, ritonavir, and ciclosporin.
- Simultaneous use of drugs causing torsades ventricular tachycardia, for example, phenothiazines, cisapride, bepridil, tricyclic antidepressants, terfenadine and certain oral macrolides, class I antiarrhythmics and III.
- Interval QTc, calculated according to the formula Bazetta:> 500 ms.
- Severe hepatic impairment.
- Severe renal insufficiency (creatinine clearance <30 mL / min).
- Children and adolescents under the age of 18 years.
