Metamin Indications
Type 2 diabetes after failure of diet and exercise, especially in patients with overweight;
- As monotherapy or combination therapy together with other oral hypoglycemic agents or together with insulin for the treatment of adults.
- As monotherapy or combination therapy with insulin for the treatment of children aged 10 years and older teens.
To reduce the complications of diabetes in adults with type 2 diabetes and overweight as a first-line drug after an ineffective diet.
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to metformin or any other component of the drug;
- Diabetic ketoacidosis, diabetic prekomy;
- Moderate renal insufficiency (stage IIIb) and or severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance <45 mL / min or GFR <45 ml / min / 1.73 m2);
- Acute conditions occurring at risk for impaired renal function such as: dehydration, severe infection, shock;
- A disease that can lead to the development of hypoxia (particularly acute illness or exacerbation of chronic disease), decompensated heart failure, respiratory failure, recent myocardial infarction, shock;
- Hepatic insufficiency, acute alcohol poisoning, alcoholism.
Dosage & Administration
Adults
Monotherapy or combination therapy together with other oral hypoglycemic agents.
Usually starting dose is 500 mg or 850 mg (Metamin®, coated tablets, 500 mg or 850 mg) 2-3 times a day during or after meals.
After 10-15 days, the dose should be adjusted according to the results of measurements of glucose in the blood serum.
The slow increase in the dose reduces the side effects of the digestive tract.
In the treatment of high-dose (2000-3000 mg daily) possible replacement every 2 tablets of the drug Metamin, 500 mg, 1 tablet of the drug Metamin 1000 mg.
Children
Monotherapy or combination therapy together with insulin.
Metamin drug is used for children aged 10 years and adolescents. Usually starting dose is 500 mg or 850 mg Metamin® 1 per day during or after meals. After 10-15 days, the dose should be adjusted according to the results of measurements of glucose in the blood serum.
The slow increase in the dose reduces the side effects of the digestive tract.
The maximum recommended dose of 2000 mg per day, divided into 2-3 receptions.
