Mefarmil Indications
Diabetes mellitus type II (insulin-dependent) after failure of diet therapy, especially in patients who suffer from obesity:
- As monotherapy or combination therapy together with other oral hypoglycemic agents or together with insulin to treat adults;
- As monotherapy or combination therapy with insulin for the treatment of children under the age of 10 years.
Reducing the risk of complications of diabetes in adult patients with type II diabetes and overweight who used metformin as first-line drug after an ineffective diet.
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to metformin or any other component of the drug;
- Diabetic ketoacidosis, diabetic prekomy, coma;
- Renal failure or renal dysfunction (creatinine clearance <60 mL / min);
- Acute conditions occurring at risk of developing kidney dysfunction, dehydration, severe infection, shock;
- Acute and chronic diseases that can lead to the development of hypoxia, cardiac or respiratory failure, recent myocardial infarction, shock;
- Hepatic insufficiency, acute alcohol intoxication, alcoholism.
Dosage & Administration
Monotherapy or combination therapy together with other oral hypoglycemic agents.
Adults. Typically, the initial dose of metformin 500 mg or 850 mg 2-3 times a day during or after meals.
After 10-15 days of treatment the dose should be adjusted according to the results of measurements of glucose in the blood serum.
The slow increase in the dose reduces the side effects of the digestive tract.
The maximum recommended dose is 3,000 mg per day for 3 hours.
Children. Mefarmil drug is used in children aged 10 years. Usually starting dose is 500 mg or 850 mg MefarmilÒ 1 per day during or after meals. After 10-15 days of treatment the dose should be adjusted according to the results of measurements of glucose in the blood serum.

The maximum recommended dose of 2000 mg per day for 2-3 hours.
