Verapamil Indications
Unstable angina.
Paroxysmal supraventricular arrhythmias.
Hypertensive crisis.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to the drug. Atrioventricular blockade II-III degree. Hypotension. sick sinus syndrome (except in patients with a pacemaker). The syndrome of Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome or Lown-Genonta-Levine in conjunction with atrial flutter or atrial fibrillation. Severe aortic stenosis. Myocardial infarction with left ventricular failure. Tachycardia with a wide QRS complex. Severe functional insufficiency of the liver and / or kidneys. Ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke.
Dosage & Administration
Applied as a slow intravenous injection or infusion. The infusion solution is prepared from 5 mg of verapamil at 150 ml 0.9% sodium chloride solution. The starting dose for adults and children over 14 years of age is 5 mg, which is administered bolus over 2-5 minutes under the supervision of electrocardiographic and blood pressure monitoring. In the absence of the effect of the introduction of the drug should be repeated after 5-10 minutes. Maintenance dose is administered as an infusion of 5-10 mg per hour. The daily dose should not exceed 100 mg.
The dose of verapamil for infants: 0.75-2 mg for children 1-5 years - 2-3 mg for children 6- 14 years - 2.5-5 mg.
