Pulmicort Indications

Asthma.

Recommended for use to infants and children with croup (a complication of acute viral upper respiratory tract infectionlaryngitis), which is an indication for hospitalization.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to budesonide or to any other ingredient of the drug.

Dosage & Administration

Pulmicort dosage must be adjusted according to the individual needs of the patient.

The dose is administered to the patient depends on the equipment used for spraying. Time dispersion and delivered dose depends on the flow rate, volume and volume nebulizer chamber filling. The rate of air flow through the device used for spraying must be equal to 6.8 liters per minute. The appropriate amount of fill for most nebulizers is 2-4 ml. Pulmicort dosage must be adjusted according to the individual needs of the patient. The dose should be reduced to the minimum necessary to maintain proper control of asthma. The highest dose (2 mg daily) for children under 12 years must be assigned only in case of severe course of asthma and for a limited period of time.

At the beginning of treatment, during periods of exacerbation of asthma and while reducing or stopping oral corticosteroids, the recommended dose of Pulmicort is:

Adults (including elderly patients): typically 1.2 mg twice a day. In very severe cases, the dose can be further increased.

Children under 12 years: dosage is the same as for adults.

Children aged 6 months to 12 years: 0.5-1 mg twice daily
