Levicitam Indications
- monotherapy (the drug of first choice) in the treatment of:
partial seizures with secondary generalization or without children and adults over the age of 16 years who first diagnosed epilepsy.
- In the combined therapy in the treatment of:
partial seizures with secondary generalization or without children and adults over the age of 4 years, patients with epilepsy;
myoclonic seizures in adults and children over the age of 12 years, patients with juvenile myoclonic epilepsy;
primary generalized convulsive (tonic-clonic) seizures in adults and children over the age of 12 years, patients with idiopathic generalized epilepsy.
Contradictions
Hypersensitivity to levetiracetam or other pyrrolidone derivatives, as well as any components of the drug; children under 4 years of age (safety and efficacy have not been established); advanced age (65 years); severe liver function; renal insufficiency.
Dosage & Administration
The drug is used internally, regardless of the meal. Oral solution can be taken directly or diluted in a glass of water. The daily dose is divided into two equal doses.
Monotherapy
Monotherapy in adults and adolescents aged 16 years should start with a dose of 500 mg (250 mg 2 times a day). After 2 weeks, the dose can be increased to the initial therapeutic - 1000 mg (500 mg 2 times a day). Subsequently, the dose can be increased to 250 mg twice daily every two weeks depending on clinical response. The maximum daily dose is 3,000 mg (1,500 mg 2 times a day).
Additional therapy
The physician should assign the most appropriate pharmaceutical form, method and amount of taking the drug, depending on body weight and dose.
Adults and children (12-17 years) weighing 50 kg or more
The initial therapeutic dose of 1000 mg / day. This dose can be started on the first day of treatment.
Children aged 6 months to 17 years, weighing 10 to 50 kg
The initial therapeutic dose is 10 mg / kg twice daily.
Depending on the clinical response and tolerability the dose may be increased to 30 mg / kg twice daily. The dose can not increase or decrease by more than 10 mg / kg twice daily every two weeks. It should use the lowest effective dose.
