Nifedipine Indications
Hypertension; coronary heart disease, chronic stable angina, vasospastic angina (Prinzmetal angina).
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to nifedipine or any component of the drug;
- Hypersensitivity to any dihydropyridine;
- Cardiogenic shock;
- Severe aortic stenosis;
- Porphyria;
- State during myocardial infarction or within a month after it;
- Secondary prevention of myocardial infarction;
- Combination with rifampicin (because of inability to achieve effective plasma levels of nifedipine due to enzyme induction);
- Unstable angina;
- Inflammatory bowel disease or Crohn's disease.
Dosage & Administration
The dose and duration of treatment the doctor determines individually according to the severity of the disease and patient response to treatment.
Depending on the clinical picture in each case, the basic dose must be introduced gradually. In patients with impaired liver function may need to carefully monitor its condition, and in severe cases - at lower doses.
For the treatment of coronary heart disease are recommended to take 1 (dose 20 mg) or 2 (dose 10 mg) tablet of the drug twice daily (40 mg / day).
If higher doses are needed, they should be increased gradually to a maximum dose - 60 mg / day.
