Atacand Indications
Treatment of essential hypertension of adults.
Treatment of adult patients with heart failure and breach of left ventricular systolic function (left ventricular ejection fraction ≤ 40%) as an additional therapy to angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACE) or in cases of intolerance to ACE inhibitors.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to candesartan or to any of the excipients.
Severe hepatic impairment and / or cholestasis.
Dosage & Administration
The dosage of hypertension treatment.
The recommended starting dose and usual maintenance dose is 8 mg Atacand 1 per day. Most of the antihypertensive effect is achieved within 4 weeks. In some patients with insufficient control of blood pressure can increase the dose to 16 mg 1 time per day and a maximum of 32 mg 1 time a day. Therapy requires correction according to blood pressure response.
Atacand also be used with other antihypertensive agents. It was shown that the addition of hydrochlorothiazide provides additional antihypertensive effect with various doses Atacand.
Elderly patients
The initial dose adjustment when using elderly patients is not necessary.
Application of patients with a reduction of circulating intravascular fluid.
The use of an initial dose of 4 mg may be considered in patients at risk for hypotension, such as patients with possible dehydration.
