Metformin Indications
Diabetes mellitus type II (insulin) - ineffectiveness of diet therapy, especially in patients with overweight.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to metformin or to any excipient, which is part of the preparation.
Diabetic ketoacidosis, diabetic prekomy, coma.
Renal failure or renal dysfunction (creatinine clearance less than 60 ml / min).
Acute conditions occurring at risk for impaired renal function:
- Dehydration;
- Severe infections;
Dosage & Administration
Monotherapy or combination therapy together with other oral hypoglycemic agents.
Adults. Usually starting dose is 500 mg 2-3 times a day during or after meals.
After 10-15 days of treatment the dose should be adjusted according to the results of measurements of glucose in the blood serum.
The slow increase in the dose reduces the side effects of the digestive tract.
The maximum recommended dose is 3,000 mg per day, averaged over 3 hours.
Children. Metformin drug use in children under 10 years. Usually starting dose is 500 mg Metformin 1 per day during or after meals. By 10-15 days of treatment the dose should be adjusted according to the results of measurements of glucose in the blood serum.
The slow increase in the dose contributes to weakening side effects from the digestive tract.
The maximum recommended dose - 2000 mg per day, divided into 2-3 receptions.
