Treatment of infections caused by cefuroxime-sensitive microorganisms, or the treatment of infections to determine the pathogen of an infectious disease.
- infectious diseases of the respiratory tract: acute and chronic bronchitis, infected bronchiectasis, bacterial pneumonia, abscess, postoperative infections of the chest organs;
- infectious diseases of the throat, nose: sinusitis, tonsillitis, pharyngitis;
- infectious diseases of the urinary tract: acute and chronic pyelonephritis, cystitis, asymptomatic bacteriuria;
- infectious diseases of soft tissues: cellulites, herpes simplex, wound infections;
- infectious diseases of bones and joints: osteomyelitis, septic arthritis;
- Infections in obstetrics and gynecology: infectious and inflammatory diseases of the pelvic organs;
- gonorrhea, especially in cases where contractile penicillin is present;
- other infectious diseases, including septicemia and meningitis.
Contradictions
Hypersensitivity to cefuroxime or to other components of the drug.
Hypersensitivity to cephalosporin antibiotics.
Presence in history of severe hypersensitivity (eg anaphylactic reactions) to other beta-lactam antibiotics (penicillins, monobacts and carbapenems).
Dosage & Administration
Adults
For many infections, it is enough 750 mg 3 times a day intramuscularly or intravenously. With more severe infections, the dose is increased to 1.5 g three times daily intravenously.
Children (including infants)
30-100 mg / kg / day, divided into 3-4 injections. For most infections, the optimal dose is 60 mg / kg per day.
Newborns
30-100 mg / kg / day, divided into 2-3 injections. It must be taken into account that the half-life of cefuroxime in the first weeks of life can be 3-5 times higher than in adults.
